Entourage E-Reader/Netbook Hybrid to Start Shipping

Entourage has just announced that starting next week, its dual-screen eDGe will start shipping complete with the 9.7-inch E-ink screen on the left half and the touchscreen LCD screen on the right. This means, you can use this device as an e-book reader, a notepad and even as a regular netbook—all at the same time.

According to Doug Atkinson, vice president of marketing and business development, pre-orders received until January 12 will start shipping next week while new orders will ship this March. This device will come with a 4GB storage space, 2 USB ports and an SD card slot. It weighs only 2.5 pounds, and will retail for $490.

It runs on an Android operating system, and will be able to handle Microsoft Office documents. The E-ink screen will be on grayscale mode while the LCD is colored. However, you can drag the documents from the grayscale area to the colored LCD.

When using the two screens, battery life is put at six hours but when only using the E-ink screen, you can use it for 16 hours.

The eDGe also partnered with public domain books that are mostly partnered with Google for their e-book feature. They have also signed up publishers like Oxford Press, Ingram Digital and LibreDigital.
